"My name is Alex Charvat, and I'm a structural engineer."

Alex Charvat is a contestant of Top Shot Season Three. He was originally a member of the Blue Team, but after making it to the final seven, joined the Green Team.

Personal life

"I like to shoot because I like the mechanics of it. It's like a big puzzle."
―Alex Charvat[src]

Alex is a structural engineer and outdoorsman residing in the woods of Conifer, Colorado. Being an engineer, it is easy for Alex to adapt to any weapon system. His passion for shooting has led to Alex naming his oldest daughter after Annie Oakley (after the famed shooter). Because he does not have cable, he had never seen an episode of Top Shot, but is confident that his background with the Reserve Officers' Training Corps and hunting have prepared himself for the competition.

Week One

Alex vs Mark

Alex arrived for Top Shot along with the other fifteen contestants. Here, Colby Donaldson, the host of the competition, stated that each of the contestants' placement would be determined by a Preliminary Challenge. In pairs, contestants would shoot head-to-head using the Smith & Wesson 500 Magnum at three targets. The one that could hit all of their targets before the other would be victorious and join the Blue Team, while the unvictorious would become a member of the Red Team. After five pairs had already competed, Colby called Alex and fellow outdoorsman, Mark Schneider to shoot. Mark was able to hit the first target just moments before Alex did. They both hit the second target simultaneously. Alex was able to hit the last target just moments before Mark, resulting in his victory and spot on the Blue Team. After the last two pairs went, Colby allowed the contestants to head to the house they would be living in during their stay in the competition. However, the members of Red Team arrived first, claiming all of the bottom bunks of the bed, giving the members of Blue Team a limited choice on where to sleep.

The following day, the contestants headed to the Shooting Range to participate in the first Team Challenge. Here, they noticed a number of platforms set up with targets in the distance. After all the contestants got situated, Colby announced that for the challenge, two contestants at a time would get onto the four platforms for their team and destroy a target each with the Larue Tactical OBR. Then Colby stated that to get onto the platforms, the contestants would not climb the ladders built onto them, but climb a sixteen foot pole that would have to be carried to each of the platforms. Before the contestants participated in the challenge, both teams decided on the shooting order. The Blue Team assigned Alex and Mike Hughes to the last platform. At this station, when Mike and Alex had finished climbing onto the platform, the former lifted the OBR, only to be informed by Alex that he forgot to load it. After loading the weapon, Mike was able to destroy his target on his second shot, handing the weapon over to Alex. He was able to hit his target on the fourth shot, just before the last shooter for Red Team, Chris Collins, had a chance to shoot, resulting in Blue Team's victory.

When the contestants returned to the house, the Red Team held a team meeting while the Blue Team went to the kitchen, where Dustin Ellermann read encouraging verses from the bible. He then concluded by stating that, when he read these verses, he thought, "sucks to be Red", which was humorous to many of the Blue Team members.
